What is pilates?
Pilates is a gentle yet powerful form of movement that helps you make your body stronger, more flexible, and more balanced. With focus on breathing, posture, and control, you work consciously on your core, back, and overall stability. It’s a caring way to reconnect with your body, release tension, and create space — both physically and mentally. Whether you’re recovering, strengthening, or simply taking good care of yourself, Pilates moves with you.
Who was Joseph Pilates?
Joseph Pilates (1883–1967) was a German movement pioneer who developed his own method for balancing body and mind. As a child, he suffered from asthma and other health problems, but he became determined to become strong and healthy.
He combined Eastern and Western influences—such as yoga, gymnastics, boxing, and breathing techniques—into a sophisticated movement method he called Contrology. This later became known as Pilates. His vision: a healthy body begins with conscious movement, a strong core, and complete control over your body.
To this day, his method inspires people worldwide to move with mindfulness, strength, and flexibility.
Joseph pilates quotes:
“In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 you’ll see the difference, and in 30 you’ll have a whole new body.”
“Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.”
“Change happens through movement and movement heals.”
“Contrology [Pilates] is complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit.”
“You are only as young as your spine is flexible.”
“Breathing is the first act of life and the last. Our very life depends on it.”
What is an intake?
A strong start with Pilates starts with you.
Every Pilates journey is unique. That’s why you always start with a personal intake at Pilautes.
Before you start your Pilates class, I believe it’s important to get to know you well. During a personal intake, I’ll take the time to teach you the basic Pilates techniques and observe how your body moves. This not only helps me understand your starting point but also identifies any imbalances.
